Cruz Family Home (Hialeah)

The Cruz family home was the Hialeah residence where Rafael Cruz and Marisol Cruz raised their children, Ezra and Luna. Its street address, ownership, occupancy dates, architectural period, layout, furnishings, and access features were not documented.

Overview

The residence housed the Cruz family after Rafael went ahead from Puerto Rico to the Miami area for work and Marisol followed with Ezra when he was about two. Ezra and Luna grew up there, and Ezra practiced music during his childhood in Hialeah. A dedicated entry documents the established material associated with Ezra’s bedroom.

Occupancy and Domestic Use

Rafael, Marisol, Ezra, and Luna lived in the home as a family. Rafael worked in construction and played guitar with Ezra. Marisol managed the household, Ezra’s childhood work, and the money he earned from it.

Rafael sustained a construction injury that caused permanent disability and severe chronic pain. His opioid treatment and later substance dependence affected the household during the following years. His closest friend, Hector Burgos, died in a car accident after the injury, when Ezra was eight, and Rafael became more withdrawn afterward.

Rafael died from an accidental fentanyl overdose in 2022. Ezra found him unresponsive and called 911, but the address where this occurred was not established. Marisol and Luna remained associated with Hialeah after his death, but their later occupancy of this house was not established.
